Bringing Stanley Halls back to life for community, entertainment, arts and enterprise uses.
We love Stanley Halls; this wonderful Grade II public halls, and it needs to be shared with all. So, we, a group of local South Norwood people, set up a charity to take management of these Halls from Croydon Council. We are opening them, as a place for our community and visitors to come and see shows on the beautiful stage, take a class in the assembly halls, have a party, see art in the gallery or just to socialise. We will also open spaces for small enterprises.
Why the community needs usStanley Halls is a key building in South Norwood; an area that needs a boost from a thriving entertainment, enterprise and community centre. There are few buildings in this part of South London that the community can claim as its own. We want to sensitively refurbish the Halls so future generations will benefit from its grand architecture. This project not only offers rooms for hire, it also offers a chance to get involved running a charity business and to learn about South Norwood's heritage.
Our impact on the communityThese public halls need to be used by all of the community, so part of our task will be to make them inviting and accessible. Having a practically untouched Edwardian gem is great, with so many original features, but that also means it has Edwardian facilities. A key task is to secure a few million pounds to preserve the heritage of the building, but also to make it more user-friendly. We will seek donations for help as well as put in all efforts to secure grants funding to achieve this.
