Starling Collective is charity working with people who are seeking asylum or have been granted refugee status. Our work is steered and advised through our Steering Group of people with lived experience of the asylum system and the reasons behind seeking asylum. The Steering Group also help design and implement the work of Starling which is volunteer and community based, offering support, advice, opportunity and empowerment to some of the most vulnerable people in Belfast. We also have a special focus on mental health support, and homeless and destitute people, with three key areas of work, offering:
- Destitution projects for male and female·
- A multi-faceted Trauma Informed Mental Health Project working with the refugee/asylum community·
- Holistic, person-centred support, advice and advocacy service for the refugee asylum community, which builds capacity for volunteers to develop skills enabling them to support their own community.
