Star Youth work with younger youth as mentors on school holiday activities. The group operates from the Community Hub in Saltwells, and primarily provide support and activities for young people aged 12+. The group was formed following discussions with members of the Holiday Club run by St Andrews Residents Trust, who have become oo old to attend (the holiday club only caters for children aged 7-12 years) but want to engage with community activities
Why the community needs usStar Youth provides an opportunity for young people to become more interested in the community and get involved in activities such as litter-picking and on the fun side we go to theme parks and make the kids enjoy there holidays and keep them out of trouble. ( anti social behaviour ). We also run intergenerational projects with senior members of the community which bridges the gap between young and old and older people feel more secure.
Our impact on the communityThe group formed when the founder was 11 and the founder has had the opportunity to design, develop and run youth activities, as well as enjoy many experiences such as rock climbing and caving. We have sucessfully raised over £6,000 during the first year of operation.
