St Michael's Parent Teacher Association are a group of volunteer parents and staff of the school with a common aim of wanting to create the best possible learning environment for our children. In practise; we raise as much money as we can each year to ensure we keep the swimming pool running and provide many 'extra' resources. This year our swimming pool needs to be replaced and this is our sole aim.

Why the community needs us

Minehead is a seaside town with no public swimming pool. If we had not replaced the pool, our children, those who attend other Exmoor Federation Schools and other local community groups will not be able to learn to swim. In addition to our pupils, the pool has been used by Foxes Academy, Buccaneers After School Club, Watery Lane Pre-School, West Somerset Nursery Group and various other local community groups. The new pool will be easily accessible for users with limited mobility.

Our impact on the community

The current pool came to the end of its life. It was very expensive to operate. In the Summer of 2014, we achieved our goal and opened the new swimming pool. Our goal is to enable every child in West Somerset to learn to swim and embrace an important life skill. Specifically, each child who leaves St Michaels has at least learned to swim 25m and begun to learn the basics of personal survival.
