The charity re-opened the closed Leisure Centre in 2013 and has successfully operated this under community management as a social enterprise ever since. It provides public access 7 days per week offering a wide range of membership options for all ages and swimming lessons from age 4 and above in both its swimming pools. It also provides a wide range of volunteer opportunities within the Centre to assist in its daily operation.
Why the community needs usThe Centre provides local community access to a wide range of sport and leisure facilities that would otherwise mean travelling a long distance to Sheffield. It is used as a base for many local sport and recreational groups, providing access to all ages and abilities. The Centre is now looking to further develop as a local hub for the delivery of a range of health and well-being activities including GP exercise referrals.
Our impact on the communityThe centres attendance levels have now reached over 150,000 per annum with a membership of over 500 people. Over 500 children use the Centre for swimming lessons and over 20 local clubs use the Centre weekly as their base. Over 30 staff (full/part time and casual) are now employed, supported by over 50 volunteers weekly. The centre is playing a vital role in improving peoples physical and mental health by encouraging the local community to get active.
