Lewisham Story Festival

From the 14th - 18th September our Story Matters in Schools - Year 3 Transition Programme will be helping struggling pupils and their teachers in Lewisham primary schools. Our multicultural Family Weekend on the 19th & 20th, is aimed at children from 5-14 and their families. With free access to authors, storytellers, poets etc. each telling stories in different ways, families will also have a chance become story makers themselves by joining our fun workshops and activities.

Why they need our service

As well as helping struggling Year 3 children in primary schools, the Festival's Family Weekend will provide all Lewisham families with a fun and free community event where stories and story making can be found at local libraries and community spaces in some of the most deprived areas of the borough. By bringing stories to local communities and keeping it free, we hope to attract families who would not normally take part in community events of this sort.

Plan and expected results

Our Y3 schools programme will help children to find their voice, grow in confidence, enjoy learning and stay motivated. It will also provide their teachers with support resources. The Family Weekend, will provide children and their families with a free and easy way to have fun together, discover and share stories, and learn about different people and cultures. It will also help parents to find simple and cheap ways to make stories and support their children's learning at home.
