To work in conjunction with the South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) and provide a first response service to all 999 Category A (life threatening) calls made within the local area that we live. All responders are unpaid volunteers who are trained by SCAS. Our aim is to reach patients well within the 8 minutes national response time and provide essential first aid within those first few minutes of the 999 call. We are part of the South Central Ambulance Charitable Trust - Charity No 1049778).
Why the community needs usSince we are local, we can often arrive at the scene of a 999 Category A (life threatening) medical emergency before an ambulance. These precious few first minutes could mean a successful outcome for the patient. In the event of a Cardiac Arrest, a person's life expectency is said to reduce by up to 20% for every minute that they do not get basic life support. As volunteers we are all learning new skills and raising the awareness of basic life support at all of the events that we attend.
Our impact on the communityIt is hoped that with our rapid attendance at emergencies, people's lives will be saved within the community in which we operate. If we are our successful in raising funds for our vehicle, in times of inclement weather, our operational base will be extended, thereby assisting even more people.Every member of the group is learning new skills and taking part in something where you could save someone's life, is a life changing experience in itself.
