Music is the great Communicator. We use songs from yesteryear to stimulate memory, to invite recall
We aim to provide a service where Dementia sufferers and their Carers can come and relax, enjoy the atmosphere, the singing, the music, the companionship and get support.
Why the community needs usWe provide a safe, happy & welcoming session where Dementia sufferers & Carers can come for respite, support, relaxation and fun Many who are unable to communicate will happily sing the words of songs from yesteryear They may dance, sway or shake one of our small percussion instruments Students from various courses come to study what we do. We have had professional visitors from Sweden & Canada who have been impressed by the service. We give talks to groups, which spreads the word about dementia
Our impact on the communityIn 3 years we have had some 5,000 people attend our sessions, We get much positive feedback. We are a 'refuge' for Carers who live under 24hr stress. We act as a sign post service. We have many resources that can be borrowed free of charge e.g.,games, jigsaws, books & tactile quilts. We hope to continue for as long as we are needed. No referral is required, everything is free and everyone is welcome. See more at http://www.singingwithdementia.co.uk
