Our Vision is of a world where the stories told & the voices heard are genuinely reflective of the world we live in; where the theatre we make understands audiences of all backgrounds & invites and welcomes them in; where the field is level & everyone has equal access. Our Mission is to smash down barriers to participating in theatre & to constantly push the boundaries of creative access. It is to drive forward equal representation of D/deaf & disabled people in theatre by levelling the stage. It is to alter the arts landscape in Wales & beyond by challenging others to think more inclusively.
We achieve this by creating accessible performances with Deaf, disabled & non- disabled creative teams. Our shows have creative access embedded at their very heart.
We run Wale's only youth theatre for Deaf & Hard of Hearing children, increasing confidence & self esteem, improving communities, providing Deaf role models & boosting aspiration for more creative futures.
We nurture Deaf & disabled creative by providing a range of support, from helping with funding applications to running skills & creatifve training, to co producing Deaf or disabled led shows.
Annually, we share our knowledge and skills at a pan Wales symposium, focussing on a specific area of access or inclusive practice. Through this we influence the wider sector to do things differently.
We have a committed board of 13; 6 are women, at least 8 identify as Deaf or disabled & 3 identity as coming from an ethnic minority. We're proud of the representation on our board.
Our impact on the community
Each year we perform to around 6000 people and work with up to 300 young and older people on various projects. We run Wales' only youth theatre for Deaf young people, which we have continued online during Covid, providing much needed connection & confidence for Deaf children. One Mum said during a session of her 14 year old daughter "I haven't heard her laugh like that in a long time".
