Your support changes local peoples' lives and helps to lift the burden of debt and poverty
It is a harsh truth that in 21st Century Britain, people continue to suffer from levels of poverty that are the direct result of low incomes and the long-term burden of debt. Talking Money is a charity dedicated to improving peoples' lives by tackling financial problems. We provide free, independent debt advice, financial capability education, benefits advice, energy advice and digital inclusion support to help people maximise their income and manage their money successfully.
Why the community needs usWe are based in St Philips, Bristol, an area that falls within the 10% of most deprived areas in the country. We deliver face to face services from our office, at outreach locations in Bristol and South Gloucestershire, or on home visits. Telephone and email advice is available to anyone living in England. A typical client is on a very low income, where the choice between 'eating or heating' is a genuine one for many. Financial, social and digital exclusion are also common problems.
Our impact on the communityIn 2015/2016 we responded to 6,410 enquiries and worked with 4,344 clients, gaining over £1 million for them in grants and benefits. We reduced clients' liabilities by £985,100 and managed over £15 million debt. Talking Money is a highly regarded charity that has been delivering services for 26 years. We lead Debt Advice partnership of 7 advice agencies in the region, and we work in partnership with many other agencies to reach some of the most vulnerable sections of society.
