The Bipolar Lift CIC (
www.bipolarlift.org) was set up to help other Bipolar Disorder sufferers to overcome/eliminate possible triggers to having episodes such as debt/welfare and DVLA issues, employment support and help to claim PIP. We are the only organisation in Nottingham that is providing this holistic service in this way. Bipolar Disorder is believed to be the result of chemical imbalances in the brain. These chemicals are responsible for controlling the brains functions.
Your help will allow us to set up a telephone support service as well as weekly one-to-one support meetings and walks with Bipolar Disorder sufferers and their families. Your support will cover the cost of producing material, care/career plans, pay for experts/member of staff/facilitators to deliver group/one-to-one therapy, group support sessions and set up a dedicated telephone service to provide support. This will be manned during office hours and will be referring urgent cases to the Emergency Services or Crisis Teams.
Why the community needs usWe believe that by dealing with root causes, we can make a significant difference to the lives of Bipolar Disorder sufferers, their friends and families. If the client is unwell, we refer them to their GP, Psychiatrist or their local Crisis Team.
Despite the political focus and increased awareness of mental health, Bipolar Disorder is still especially stigmatising, often resulting in discrimination at work and social situations. As a result, many sufferers hide their illness and don’t receive the appropriate care and support needed to achieve mental wellbeing. There is a need for our holistic service which is not replicated elsewhere in Nottingham. We are not involved in the medical element; concentrating solely on providing a wrap-around practical and emotional support mechanism for sufferers.
Our impact on the communityWith our on-call service, regular local meetings and 1-to-1 sessions we believe we can make a real positive difference to their lives. As a recently formed organisation in 2019, we are proud to have already made a positive difference to many of our beneficiaries’ lives. We concentrate solely on providing a wrap-a-round practical and emotional support mechanism for Bipolar sufferers and their families and our work with health agencies and voluntary/community organisations has demonstrated that there is a need for this service; further evidenced by an increase in the number of referrals we have received from mental health groups and the successes we have achieved with regards to benefits and appeals.
