We support a multi-racial inner-city community. This request is to part fund our Homework & Coding Club which is for Broomhall Children who have suffered so much during the pandemic.
Even in normal times 64% of our children leave primary school below standard, they suffer from family poverty (34% unemployed) lack of language (36% born outside UK) and crowded housing. Before Covid the club supported over 30 children. It brought together the children with student volunteers living in Broomhall. Emily, the coordinator, recruits and trains students and manages the club.
The children (aged 7-17) have lost schooling and have not been able to benefit from home schooling. During our closure Emily has kept contact and supported the children from a distance.
The club now has a hugely expanded role to assist these children to get back into education. The building is now Covid secure. One to one sessions are being organised. Funds are sought to supplement two grants already committed to pay the coordinator and premises costs for a year. Total needed £12,000 Total requested £5,000.
