The Kind Bay Initiative is a Community Interest Company that is not for profit. We are here to support those in Colwyn Bay that are vulnerrable, lonely, isolated, homeless and suffering with mental health challenges.
We offer free hot food and emergency clothing, as well as support, signposting and advocacy , creative projects that enhance mental and emotional well being as well as hosting monthy drop ins with organisations such as MIND. NACRO and working alongside many other support groups and organisations that allow us to signpost indiviuals quickly and effectively. We also have a volunteer who is a restired Psychologist and offers her services of listening support mindfulness and relaxtion techniques to attendees and the general public.
We have been involved in large community doorstep collections helping to support other third sector organisations for example, food banks, the Welsh Mountain Zoo, helping St David's Hospice shops open during the Covid-19 pandemic as well as organising and distributing 'Community Christmas Treat Boxes' for those in need, gardening projects and outreach work.
We started in 2019, are run by a team of truly wonderful volunteers! We have continually grown and developed; reacting to the needs of the community, especially in response to the challenges brought by Covid 19 and the impact it has had. Supporting mental health is our main focus and many of our attendees have told us that if they hadn't been able to come to our sessions they potentially wouldn't be here anymore!
Our aim is to break down the prejudices that often exist in society. We offer an accepting, non judgemental, approach . We don't aim to 'fix' , only to support and to enable people to have the tools they need to lead a healthy life whether that is food, clothing, bedding and household items or activities for mental and physical health. If we do not have the resource ourselves, we signpost to organisations and groups that can offer further help.
We started off in a church building once a week but due to Covid (and with permission) ended up outside under gazebos for 24 weeks in the cold as we realised how important it was to continue supporting those in need. We are now proud to say that we have our own building on Seaview Road in Colwyn Bay where we provide our hot food and support, however we now have 6K a year to find for the rental!
We are hoping to start a Cottage Industry in the new year with attendees learning creative skills that enable them to create items to sell with a profit share between themselves and KBI, aloowing them to invest in the service that supports them,
Our foundation is kindness, and our ethos is acceptance and understanding and we believe that when those three things are in place miracles happen!
We thank you for your kind donation and supporting our work.
