The Wilderness Trust is a registered charity (Founded 1987) whose objectives are environmental enhancement, education, community resilience and social inclusion.

The trust has formed their vision based on more than 30 years of experience in organising teams of volunteers including vulnerable and marginalised individuals, farming and conservation work, running companies and regenerative farming/ecological movements. This vision is that by developing strong and resilient communities and making deeper connections with the environment we can bring about green sustainable development at a local and community scale.

We believe that when people make these connections, it increases both their sense of well being and their desire to care for our environment, creating a healthier, happier planet.
The trust is the root and driving force of a network of community driven projects that strive to support green recovery, historical connections and community initiatives.

These projects include:
Old Chapel Farm: A working farm which stands as an example of how we can live sustainably on the land whilst producing food and restoring ecosystems and providing opportunities for people to grow skills and propose initiatives of sustainable development.

The out of Eden Project: A site for unique educational experience on Neolithic and historical life allowing communities to connect with the past and learn from where our modern world took root.

The Hanging Gardens Project: An eco-hub offering a wide range of awareness-raising, trainings, and learning activities on our natural heritage and protection of the environment and biodiversity. A space from which individuals and organisations can develop new collaborative insights and actions towards green recovery

Today humanity faces many challenges (Climate change, resource scarcity, Covid 19) that have a global and lasting impact on the planet. In this difficult context, one thing is becoming clear: there is no going back to business as usual. Faced with these challenges we need to have greater ambition and take greater risks to find a balance that restores our hope in a vibrant future.  With the development of these projects  we will enhance the social, economic, and environmental resilience of the local community. These projects show how, at community level, we can work towards the global solution and to lead the change – not be dragged into it.
