The Proud Trust is a life-saving and life-enhancing charity supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people. Our home is the LGBT+ Centre Manchester but our work has a national reach. We provide LGBT+ youth groups, manage the LGBT+ Centre, offer training, education and resources and work closely with regional and national partners to make things better for LGBT young people. We have our biggest ever fundraising challenge - we want to re-build the LGBT+ Centre to more than double its size!
Why the community needs us
We help save lives of LGBT+ young people through our services, advocacy and support. We give people a safe space to come to where they can be themselves and escape homo/bi/trans-phobia. Last year we welcomed 17,700 people through the Centre and it's Cafe. We are home to 18 regular groups who meet here in a safe and inclusive, dry space. We work with LGBT+ people to improve where they live, work, study, play and pray. We regularly see people improve their confidence, build supportive friendships
Our impact on the community
The LGBT+ Centre is a port in a storm for many people. It is a point of access for many fleeing discrimination and in need of care and support which is why we have taken on our rebuild project to help make things better. Our feedback tells us that we are saving lives through our work, we take young LGBT+ people from feeling confused and alone to feeling a part of a community that cares about them, loves them and understands them.
