The Windfall Centre is a charitable organisation. Our home base is in Llandrindod Wells in mid Wales and our service covers the Swansea Valley and West Wales. Our team of therapists have expertise and practice in the field of children and young people’s mental and emotional health and development, including Play Therapy, Art Psychotherapy, Counselling and therapeutic work with families.

The Clinical team at Windfall provides therapeutic support to children and young people facing a wide range of challenges which can include concerning behaviours, attachment difficulties and developmental trauma. Through the work of Six British Association of Play Therapists (BAPT) Play Therapists, five Filial Therapists, a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, an Art Therapist, and a Specialist Child and Adolescent Counsellor, we are able to offer a range of evidence-based therapeutic programmes to meet the individual needs of children, young people and their families.

Everyone at The Windfall Centre chose their line of work based on a deep commitment to making the lives of children and families the best they can be. We can offer advice and signposting to caregivers, professionals, children and young people.  We also offer therapeutic guidance and support to expectant parents and to adoptive parents through pre and post adoption programmes.

In 2021/22 The Windfall Centre helped 51 children and families access therapeutic support with the average age of the child being 10 Years old. The number of referrals this year was more than double the previous year. In 2021/22 75% of all referrals were from parents and carers expected to fund therapy and we rely on the support of the community, grants and donations to keep the services going and help these families access the support they need.

Parents’ comments:

“I do not know where me and my children would be without The Windfall. I mean that totally. The advice, support and guidance have been invaluable.”

“E has benefitted enormously. She had a safe space that was hers alone to express herself and she felt so comfortable. In an often troubled house it has been a huge deal to her emotional wellbeing.”

‘There has been a complete change, everything’s going well at home and at school. It’s been amazing and I’m so grateful. If we hadn’t had this I don’t know where we would be.’

‘He’s really got a lot from therapy. It was his safe space- a lot has also happened during his therapy (medical issues) therefore an extension of therapy would have been useful’

Changes- ‘better understanding of his emotions/behaviour’ ‘more resilience and ability to deal with difficult situations’ ‘developed empathy’
‘From my point of view as a guardian- more understanding of his needs and behaviour and finding new ways to help him cope with emotions etc’
‘Made a huge difference to his overall emotional wellbeing- behaviour at home was improved, and at school’

Children’s and Young People’s comments:

“Having someone to talk to. (therapist’s name) was amazing. I was allowed to talk about anything. It helped me open up, the stuff in the room was cool, it helped me trust people.”

What did you like? “That I am listened to and have fought against my anxiety.”

“I actually got to talk to someone" ‘Obviously, it’s got a lot better. Any back and fro between mum and me has eased off. It’s a lot better now’

If you can make a donation, no matter how small, it will help a child in need. A regular donation, would help us to sustain our work and reach out to more families - Thank you/Diolch
