This New Ground is an ambitious initiative with hubs in Hammersmith and Fulham and the City of Portsmouth that seeks to elevate the artistic voices and talents of people with learning disabilities.
Our aim is to remove barriers and increase access for learning disabled people to lead, make and participate in the arts thus promoting a more equal and inclusive society.
Why the community needs us
Around 1.4 million people in the UK have a learning disability. They are one of the most excluded groups in our society. They have a life expectancy of around 20 years lower than a non-disabled person. At least half the learning disabled population experience loneliness and isolation. They also face prejudice, poverty, unemployment and poor mental health.
Our impact on the community
Through creative engagement we help improve the life chances of marginalised learning disabled people and enable learning disability culture to be both seen and celebrated within mainstream society, achieved by devising original high quality performing arts by diverse artists.
