About us
This New Ground elevates the artistic voices and talents of people with a learning disability. We remove barriers and increase access for people with a learning disability to lead, make and participate in the arts.
Why the Community Needs Us
People with a learning disability remain one of the most excluded groups in society. Many experience social isolation, limited access to creative and cultural life, and reduced opportunities for employment, leadership and financial independence. These inequalities have a profound impact on wellbeing, confidence and community participation.
Our Impact
We provide safe, accessible spaces where learning-disabled people can build confidence, make connections and develop their creative identity. Many of our artists face multiple disadvantages, including social isolation, low income, housing insecurity and restricted cultural access. Through structured workshops, open-studio time, collaborative commissions, skills-development and creative leadership opportunities, we support each person to grow and thrive.
Participants report improved wellbeing, reduced loneliness and greater independence. Several artists have progressed into paid creative work, exhibitions, public commissions and leadership roles within our organisation.
