Thomas's Fund was set up to provide music therapy in the home and hospitals for children/young people aged 0 - 19 with life-limiting or life threatening conditions (are unlikely to reach adulthood) or disability, which for medical reasons, means that they are too ill to attend school or an early years setting for extended periods.

Why the community needs us
The children/young people who access our service are generally extremely isolated through disability and/or illness. Music therapy provides them with an emotional and creative outlet through which to express themselves where words are not possible or not enough. We provide support by developing areas of communication, social and physical development, helping them work through specific issues, such as bereavement or illness and, for some, we provide essential support at the end of life.

Our impact on the community
Thomas's Fund continually monitors its work through questionnaires with the children/young people we work with (and their parents/carers) and evaluation with other healthcare professionals involved with our work. Our service has been evaluated extremely positively, with music therapy being found to be very beneficial to the individuals we work with.  Developments have been clearly noted for many in areas such as communication, self awareness, self expression and social skills. During the recent pandemic, we have worked really hard to ensure that we continue to provide the best service that we can, even online.
