We enable disabled adults and children to have a go at horseriding for enjoyment or therapy or both!
We want disabled people to have a chance to ride horses. Through riding with the RDA 75% of people demonstrate improved communication skills, 80% grow in confidence and 80% demonstrate positive physical changes after just a few sessions. Therapy at RDA is integral to all our activities but is often disguised as opportunities for achievement and fun.
Why the community needs usWe are based close to Bradford City Centre so are easy to reach by the local special schools who bring groups of children to ride the ponies during the week. We also offer volunteering opportunities to all parts of the community e.g. people wanting worthwhile exercise, students needing work experience and many people needing volunteering opportunities to help them back to the workplace.
Our impact on the communityThrostle Nest has a real community spirit with the Riding School customers, pony club centre members and all the RDA volunteers working together to raise funds to provide new and interesting equipment and opportunities so that disabled adults and children can enjoy horseriding and all the benefits it can bring them. We have just moved to new premises in Wilsden and are determined to make the experience for our riders even better with all the improvements we have planned.
We need people who are fairly fit and are comfortable around horses to help lead or walk at the side of our disabled riders on lessons.
