The group helps to support vulnerable adults and provides a safe space in which members can engage in positive activities. They have the opportunity to engage in creative arts and crafts that has the potential to build self-esteem through creative decision making. An experienced community artist guides the group through activities and members visit to a variety of exhibitions and events to develop their knowledge and appreciation of art. They say, "We love all the activities"
Why the community needs usThe group is made up of people from the community who come together each week. All members are encouraged to exhibit their work at local venues and the community are encouraged to see the work and discuss it with the members. Anyone can come along to the group on a drop-in basis or as a permanent member when a space becomes available. The group hold an open event each year for the community to come along and have a go at a variety of artforms like felt making, pastels, pottery, painting etc.
Our impact on the communityThe results are a tremendous sense of belonging and self-worth associated with the pursuit of activities at each members own level. They have expressed that they love coming to the group and have all become more confident, made new friends, had the opportunity to exhibit their own work and been to places and seen things that otherwise would not have been possible. They have shared with others so many things that were not expected.
