Building a greener, stronger community for the people in and around Fishguard and Goodwick.
Transition Bro Gwaun is a community grassroot organisation based in Fishguard & Goodwick, West Wales. We aim to create the kind of community that can address the challenges of climate change while making the future more certain for our children and less dependent on resources from elsewhere. While focusing on new ways of thinking and living, we run several community based projects, one of which is our Community Fridge. We also run a Garment Repair Hub, offer an Energy Advice Service, we part-own the Abergwaun Community Wind turbine and have started to roll out our domestic rooftop Solar Project.
Why the community needs us
We are aiming to create a more resilient community with the support of a small team of paid staff members and a very sizable team of volunteers from our community. They choose to get involved in our various projects for many reasons, often because they feel strongly about our aims and also because of the warm and friendly atmosphere. We support our volunteers and other local groups to put on activities which help people reduce, reuse and recycle as well as increase biodiversity in our community.
Our impact on the community
Every month we save an average of just over 1 ton of food from going to landfill at the Community Fridge. The food is taken by anyone who needs it. Our Garments Repair Hub helps people to give their clothes a new lease of life.
Our wind turbine produces clean energy and the profit generated is being distributed via our own Grant scheme (CCF) to enable more environmentally friendly community projects - we have granted £100,000 in 4 years!
Our aim is to make local renewable energy available at a fair rate and to generate enough renewable energy to power our community by 2035.
