Helping develop an environmentally sustainable lifestyle, while also building communities.
Transition Chichester (TC) works with all factions of the community to reduce our environmental impact in the local area. From growing and eating locally to reduced dependence on transport to lowering our domestic energy use TC aims to scale back our consumption of fossil fuels in a fun, creative and positive way. As well as encouraging individuals to take action through the various projects the work we do also gives people the opportunity to work together, creating important community bonds.
Why the community needs usWe encourage people to live more sustainably by reducing energy consumption in their homes, re-using rather than throwing away, buying local food and growing their own. Through our many and varied activities we are enabling the residents of Chichester to live more sustainability while also building communities around them, and preparing for a more positive, less environmentally damaging future.
Our impact on the communityTC is five years old and has grown rapidly, running a number of successful projects. These include an annual Green Fair, monthly Eco Cinema showing awareness-raising films, a community orchard and orchards in local primary schools, a community currency (TCHI) based on skill sharing, an energy project issuing energy monitors and using a a thermal imaging camera to detect heat loss. In addition to this a community garden is to soon be established alongside the community orchard.
Transition Chichester is always on the hunt for volunteers, from helping out with our Eco Cinema, to horticultural work at the community orchard and garden to helping with marketing, or organising exciting and innovative ways the organisation might raise vital funds. We have over ten different projects running at the moment, all of which volunteers are needed.
