Transition Chichester (TC) works with all sectors of the community to reduce our environmental impact in the local area. From growing and eating locally to reduced dependence on transport to lowering our domestic energy use TC aims to scale back our consumption of fossil fuels in a fun, creative and positive way. As well as encouraging individuals to take action through the various projects the work we do also gives people the opportunity to work together, creating important community bonds.

Why the community needs us
We encourage people to live more sustainably by reducing energy consumption in their homes, re-using rather than throwing away, buying local food and growing their own. Through our many and varied activities we are enabling the residents of Chichester to live more sustainably while also building communities around them, and preparing for a more positive, less environmentally damaging future.

Our impact on the community
TC was founded in 2008 and runs a number of successful projects. These include community gardens and orchards, a weekly Earth Café and quarterly Swap Shops and Repair Cafés. Our gardens are run as therapeutic spaces with particular focus on  gardening for mental health. In addition we run regular events such as Eco Festivals, presentations from speakers on environmental issues and the ever-popular summer fair on Brewery Field. We network actively with other environmental organisations in the community n order to raise public awareness of environmental issues.
