1) To promote any charitable purpose for the benefit of unpaid carers of any age in the community who look after someone who depends upon them in the Mid Devon and Social Services area, by the advancement of education, the protection of health and the relief of poverty, sickness and distress. 2) To ensure that every individual is made aware of the services available to them and is given the opportunity to express their needs effectively, regardless of race, gender, sexuality or disability.
Why the community needs usCarers may be rurally isolated and have great difficulty in being able to find any time for themselves. Frequently their own health and wellbeing may be neglected as a result of their responsibilities. Our role is to help carers to be able to get access to all of the support available to them and to help them to recognise their value to society in everything they do and to be able to find time for themselves and satisfaction from their own lives.
Our impact on the communityOur services and volunteer support help to improve the emotional, and therefore physical, wellbeing of vulnerable adult carers. Our volunteers support the carers in looking after themselves and seeking medical treatment and other available services in a timely manner thus avoiding carer neglect. This will have a consequent effect on the wellbeing of the cared-for person with less need for visits to GPs and less need for emergency support of the cared-for person due to the carer becoming unwell.
