WAITS aids women in Birmingham with domestic abuse, offending services, and community integration.
Women Acting In Today’s Society (WAITS) was established in 1993 and is a registered charity. Working mainly in Birmingham and Sandwell, we have a specialist role in providing domestic abuse and female offending services for the city’s diverse community. WAITS provide holistic one-to-one and group support to address the practical, emotional and psychological needs of our clients on their journey towards empowerment. Unlike some other organisations, we are not time-bound, meaning we can offer ongoing support for as long as it is needed. We directly support women through the following services:
The Domestic Abuse Service - supporting women who have experienced/are currently experiencing domestic abuse.
The Community Integration Project (CIP) - supporting women who have offended in the past or who are at risk of offending/re-offending in the future. Also, our employability program offers flexible 1- 1 mentoring and coaching support to clients who wish to gain employment, further training or volunteering experience as part of their integration into community.
Women’s Refuge - supporting women who are fleeing from, or who are facing homelessness due to, domestic violence.
Community Organising - helping them build their understanding of the policies that govern us and develop the skills to participate in forums and decision-making processes. WAITS also provide additional services:
Additional services are: Counselling, Befriending Services, Referral Services and weekly workshops.
