Wakefield District holds a special place in our hearts and it is our aim to help address the specific needs of our district by creating funds and distributing them to deserving local causes. This district whilst enjoying good steady economic growth, still has a very high rate of Child poverty, Fuel Poverty and has a poor public health record. Through our activities we aim to raise funds from those that have to benefit those in local need
Why the community needs us
The Community Foundation is place specific and this means that we don't just support a single cause but look to serve the whole Wakefield district in general. We have the expertise to raise funds, create campaigns, connect people etc. for the general good of the whole district. By engaging with local community groups we can help even the smallest of groups benefit from not just our expertise but also with that of Community Foundations nationwide.
Our impact on the community
We have already distributed over £1.75 million to our local community and in the process have helped over 1,000 local community groups. We have reached out across the whole district including the five towns and have helped groups as those set up to meet the needs of - the disabled, the blind, the elderly, those in poverty, the homeless, those with specific health issues and sports clubs that have been set up to encourage activity plus inclusion.
