Warning Zone is a Leicester based charity and an interactive life-skills centre. We teach young people from across Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland. Eight zones incorporate realistic, life-like settings, which serve to teach children about personal safety. This includes: fire in the home, road safety, alcohol and anti-social behaviour, peer pressure, criminal responsibility and much more. Our ninth zone, a retro fairground, teaches children about online safety, including grooming & bullying.
Why the community needs usChildren leave us with the tools to make more informed decision when it comes to risk and consequences. They will know how they can protect themselves in various situations, how to resist peer pressure and will understand the consequences of obtaining a criminal record. They will also be more informed as to how they can report bullying on the internet, the risks of sharing images and will think-twice about adding a stranger. All this is will have a positive effect in their local community!
Our impact on the communityOver 10,000 visitors will pass through WZ this year, including almost 9,000 Yr 6 pupils. This academic year, we launched a new evaluation process for schools and are pleased to report that to date: 980 Yr 6 pupils checked their privacy settings, 1,250 are thinking more about their digital footprint, 638 changed a gamer tag or profile picture. 949 reviewed their Social Media contacts, and 1,398 feel more confident going to talk to someone if they have a problem or concern (from 2,042 responses).
