Waterways Experiences is an award-winning, volunteer-run charity, operating three canal boats from a beautifully landscaped boat base on the Grand Union Canal, near Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire. We promote well-being benefits to the community, by providing affordable fully accessible canal boat day trips for all and particularly for those who are socially or economically disadvantaged, including individudals with physical or learning disabilities the elderly and youth groups. We encourage everyone to participate in the boating experience, whether that is steering the boat, operating the locks or just relaxing and enjoying the beauty of our waterways.
As well as our day trips we run our Enable holidays which are offered free of charge to small groups of young people. There are weekends for Young Carers and weeklong trips for small groups of challenged teenagers including those with physical or learning disabilities.
As a charity with no paid staff, some 100 volunteers deliver the full spectrum of functions, keeping running costs low and resulting in a lean, cost effective organisation. Our main outgoings are maintenance and general running costs for our three boats, along with other sundry costs.
As volunteers, what makes us tick is the satisfaction of being able to share our passion for the waterways and canal boating with people normally excluded from this pastime. The commitment and dedication shown by our volunteers is what makes us special.
We rely on donations to help fund our activities.
