Welsh Mills Society

The Welsh Mills Society is a voluntary, independent society that warmly welcomes everyone interested in the wind and water mills of Wales and their products. We encourage interest in the appreciation, understanding and importance of mills and milling and their purpose.

We campaign for the preservation, restoration and recognition of mills as both a vital heritage asset and a local economic asset. Our very knowledgeable members can provide a range of academic and historical knowledge together with practical advice for those living within, or working with, surviving mills. Our Mills Restoration Fund can offer small grants to help with restoration and repairs. Our quarterly newsletter, our annual Journal – Melin, regular field trips, hands-on activities and on-line learning provide members with a range of diverse and engaging activities.

Through our work, we support traditional mills ensuring they remain relevant in a changing world and that milling skills, knowledge and products are recognised as part of our sustainable future and therefore nurtured for future generations to enjoy.
