Our mission is to 'enhance and promote the rights, representations and housing standards for people who rent in Wales'.

Why the community needs us

Welsh Tenants history began in 1977 when four women chained themselves to the railings of Pontypridd town hall complaining about damp homes. The campaign led to hundreds of groups forming a national representative voice for tenants in 1987/8. While our role is mainly focused on being a collaborative voice for renters, helping to shape policy and practice, we also provide support to renters.

Our impact on the community

Muriel is 91 and broke her leg while on holiday. It was a serious break that left her in hospital for several months. On returning home she was supported by her local hospital discharge scheme, however, her private landlord refused to approve some critical installations, so Muriel was housebound. After several months of getting nowhere, she turned to us. Welsh Tenants help hundreds of renters every year with their rights and their obligations helping to understand and resolve problems.
