Windsor Horse Rangers is a charity which was set up to enable children from every income group to learn all aspects of riding, stable management and horse care. We have 18 horses and ponies at our farm in Fifield and are run entirely by volunteers. For 51 weekends of the year over 160 children take part, including some children with special needs. The children are taught riding and horse care from a syllabus which gets progressively more in depth as the children progress through Rangers
Why the community needs usAs well as learning about riding and horse care, Rangers learn teamwork, respect for people and animals, and many other skills. They also spend a lot of time outside doing physical activities such as poo-picking the fields, mucking out stables and cleaning the yard. We have had several children with 'challenging' behaviour attending Rangers over the years and have seen them change for the better as they are accepted and given responsibilities within the structure of Rangers.
Our impact on the communityWe have had several children with 'challenging' behaviour attending Rangers over the years and have seen them change for the better as they are accepted and given responsibilities within the structure of Rangers. Over the years hundreds of local children have been members of Rangers and many have gone on to further education and careers with horses. Several rangers have completed equine related degrees at university before coming back to help as adult volunteers.
