WISP is a dance club for young people aged 11-25 living with disability or learning need. It's fun.
Dance helps increase self-esteem, confidence, coordination, well-being and contributes to a healthy lifestyle. We work together and we learn to work with others, share experiences, develop our physicality, improve our co-ordination and balance, extend and use language, movement and creativity to give voice and vision to our ideas. It helps us to express ourselves and gives us the confidence to do performances, which are a big boost to our self esteem and our view of who we are.
Why the community needs usWISP Dance Club develops transferable inter-life skills that help its members to lead fulfilling lives and live as part of the community. The creative movement sessions not only develop coordination and physicality, but also help individuals to work with others and increase confidence and self-esteem, especially by working through performance.
Our impact on the communityTo develop confident, accomplished and healthy individuals living more fulfilled lives and more able to participate within the local community.
We need volunteers who are interested in working with young people who have disabilities and/or learning needs. We work in a practical way so volunteers need to want to do dance and movement. We also require volunteers to be CRB checked.
