The Wor Hoose Community Project was established to address issues highlighted by residents within the estate. The main aim of the Community Project is to enhance the social, educational and economic welfare of residents within the Hexham Avenue housing estate and surrounding areas. Our overall aim is to tackle deprivation and improve the quality of life for local people living in this area.
Why the community needs usWe suffer from deprivation in relation to income, employment, education, child poverty, crime and disorder. Our residents are socially excluded people; many suffer from depression, loneliness, domestic violence and have either a drug or alcohol problem. They have low levels of educational attainment, poor basic skills and struggle to access employment opportunities. We offer total inclusiveness and aim to provide 'something for everyone'.
Our impact on the communityRecent evidence indicates we are 'best placed' to increase the capacity and capability of EVERYONE living here. We are trusted, transparent and work hard to bring about positive action from the ground level upwards. 500 people access our services each year. Last year 60 people increased their employment prospects by accessing training opportunities. 120 people accessed debt advice sessions. 200 people benefited from health and wellbeing activities. 4 people found full-time work.
