Career WorkOut is a one hour session in which small groups of 3-4 students ask volunteer work guests about their experiences of work in a carousel of 6-7 minute conversations.
Why the community needs usCareer WorkOut helps young people work out what different jobs exist locally and which jobs might suit them; also work out how to speak and listen effectively to adults they don't know. Work guests also benefit by doing something useful for the community and feeling personally valued.
Our impact on the communityBetween September 2016 and July 2017, 6,414 students aged 11-18 participated in 146 Career WorkOut sessions and 5,036 completed pre- and post-session questionnaires which showed: 15% increase in "I am confident making choices about my future work options"21% increase in "I am confident talking to adults I don't know" and 7% overall increase in "I am committed to learning and want to achieve". Of guests, 97% agree afterwards 'I now feel more positive about my work' and 50% strongly agree.
We need volunteer work guests to spend one hour in a local school answering student questions about their personal experiences of work in a carousel of 6-7 minute interviews with other guests from different work backgrounds.
