Wycombe Museum is a family-friendly museum, community venue and garden, and charity.

Wycombe Museum is a family friendly museum that explores the history of High Wycombe and the surrounding areas, through hands-on galleries. Known to many as the chair museum, our collection not only spans Wycombe’s furniture-making history, but also includes, art, photography, and many varied artefacts documenting the area’s rich social history.Wycombe Museum is housed in a Grade II listed building, with parts dating back to the 1600s. We have an on-site café and are surrounded by a big beautiful garden, great for exploring.

Why the community needs us

Our social history and art collections represent and reflect our people and their stories. Culture and heritage can help people to feel connected to a place and community, increasing a sense of belonging, self-esteem, pride and happiness. As local people are at risk through the cost-of-living crisis, Wycombe Museum is seeking to be part of a network of support across the county, proving warm space, company and accessible heritage and culture for all.

Our impact on the community

We offer charity rates or funding options to small groups who have no income to hire the museum spaces. We support over 1000 school children in their curriculum. We train and work with over 60 volunteers in areas such as collections, café and archives.
We have a sensory garden and provide work experience for young people with special educational needs.
We want to improve the health and wellbeing of local people through our collections, inside and outside spaces, diverse programming and networks from volunteers to local schools.

Volunteers are a vital and valued part of the Wycombe Museum family. We value every skill that people bring and every minute that people give to us, and endeavour to have every volunteer feel appreciated and enjoy the time they spend helping us. We strive to have a relationship with our volunteers based on mutual respect and understanding.
