Godalming | Social Welfare
We exist to provide a warm, friendly environment in which those, mainly aged over 60, can enjoy meeting, eating and participating in activities with their friends both old and new. Our members come from Milford and the surrounding rural villages where public transport is very limited so we run our own minibuses. We provide respite for families looking after elderly relatives and we welcome'carers and cared for' together. We aim to keep our members active and involved.
Why the community needs usThere is a real risk in our rural situation of elderly people with limited income becoming isolated and lonely, especially after a spell of ill-health. At The Clockhouse they can benefit from a subsidised, freshly prepared midday meal and transport to/from home, as well as social interaction with sympathetic volunteers and trained staff. Also available are hairdressing and chiropody services and stimulating activities - PC tuition, art classes, exercise classes, outings and one week holidays.
Our impact on the communityWith 250 members, over 70 volunteers and a growing demand for many of the activities, it is clear that we are meeting an important need in our community. The range of services and activities on offer, the availability of transport and food and the happy social interaction all combine to enhance the lives of both members and volunteers and go a long way to avoid isolation at home and declining physical and mental health.
