Today we bring you a fantastic new video from National Grid Electricity Distribution who paid a visit to Cardiff to visit Women Connect First and the Cardiff City FC Community Foundation just two recent beneficiaries of their Community Matters Fund (Fuel Poverty) grants which Localgiving administer.
For over 20 years, Women Connect First, from their centre in Riverside, Cardiff has worked hard to improve lives especially for women, young girls and children from disadvantaged ethnic minority communities. This remarkable charity provides a range of services, including advice and advocacy, counselling and other mental health support, physical health and well-being activities, ESOL and ICT classes, a cafe, a free creche and after school clubs. Their Winter 2023/4 project funded by the National Grid’s Community Matters Fund, managed, and distributed by Localgiving, was to run a warm bank with energy advice sessions for women from ethnic minorities and their families.
Twenty minutes down the road is the the Cardiff City FC Community Foundation, who aim to use the inspiration of the city's football team to change lives and transform communities. The Foundation's vision is for people in our communities to achieve their full potential. By harnessing the power of football and leveraging the assets of the football club we aim to improve health and wellbeing, support learning and skills, and build stronger communities. Funded by the Community Matters Fund for them this Winter, National Grid funded a project to run a warm welcome community hub in Cardiff City FC's stadium, distributing warm packs to their community.
