To support those who are over 50, many of whom are living alone, in informing and advising of services available in their local area. These services include public transport, pensions and benefits, housing, care and health services. Arranging and promoting social events such as theatre trips, music evenings, and informing via monthly newsletter events in their area which are suitable for encouraging people alone to take part in.
Why the community needs usTo encourage older people to become less isolated and to provide opportunities particulary for single people to be able to socialise in safe ways. To encourage older people to use their skills to assist each other. To signpost help/support, which is available from the statutory authorities and to work with them to assist older people to navigate the complexity of social provision (COPE is a critical friend to local authorities). COPE also represents older people's views locally and nationally.
Our impact on the communityCurrent individual membership countywide is 2,931. Regular events are held in the COPE office and districts throughout the year. These include talks, demonstrations, social trips to the theatre and other places of interest (paid for by members at cost). Distribution of regular Newsletters by post or email to every member. We hold Forums on subjects of interest to our members, normally attended by up to 250 people. Representatives attend meetings to put forward the views of the membership.
