We work with asylum seekers and refugees, welcoming them and introducing them to life in Sheffield; we raise awareness and understanding about asylum through refugee talks in schools and the local community; we ensure the voice of asylum seekers and refugees is heard amongst policymakers and others.

Why the community needs us

By introducing local people to refugees who have fled their homes and families we have helped people to understand why it is important to understand what makes them seek sanctuary. In our experience most people want to help those who have been persecuted because they have stood up for democracy, human rights, faith, or just because they were born into a particular ethnic group or skin colour.

Our impact on the community

After hearing the first hand experiences of our refugee volunteers, school students have told us: "I won't be as quick to believe how the media represents refugees" (Year 10 student, King Ecgbert School); "After hearing the asylum seekers' stories I will appreciate what I have more because some people have to leave everything behind just to be safe." (Year 10 student, Westfield Sports College)
