The Club is organised by Crosby Scout and Guide Associations but is open to all children living in Sefton. The Club provides all the facilities and equipment for young people to be able to participate in sailing and kayaking at Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre. Tuition is given by qualified instructors to RYA and BCU standards. The Club is run by volunteers which enables then to keep their operating costs to a minimum so as to be accessible to all young people, particularly in south Sefton.
Why the community needs usThe Club has provided these activities on Crosby lake for more than 30 years and is still thriving. Membership numbers are high for such a volunteer managed organisation. The Club operates at a location in south Sefton. Many members arrive on foot or by cycle, so have not travelled far. South Sefton is the poorest part of the borough and the Club is able to provide a healthy outdoor alternative for young people because of its ability to provide low cost access.
Our impact on the communityOur activities provide a healthy outdoor alternative to TV and computers. These are sports which involve mental as well as physical activity. Youngsters learn new skills, to take responsibility for themselves, others and equipment. The Club is a meeting place for youngsters of varied backgrounds and provides a common interest in their sport. Our events are good for team building and help break down social barriers. Retaining older members is important as they are able to help with tuition.
