Dance 21 offers a dynamic, fun, structured environment where everyone has the opportunity to improve their potential through dance and movement. We also develop a variety of skills and each child is valued as an individual and respected team member. Mary Schultz, as organiser and Jean Hunter, as dance teacher, match the depth of character, warmth, love, dedication, sense of humour and performance shown by the group and are supported by the committee, parents, families and friends.
Why the community needs usThe activity provides exercise and social interaction so important to the health and well being of those with Down Syndrome. Members can take dance examinations and are very proud of the medals they receive. Our public performances are a delightful opportunity to share our achievements. The group also arranges outings and social events that include any siblings who do not wish to take part in dance.
Our impact on the communityThe group has 41 members aged 6 to 22 and we are in great demand to perform at many local community events. We have also taken part in 4 very exciting events: 'Stars In Our Eyes' at Her Majesty's Theatre, twice at Sadler's Wells Theatre and The National Down's Syndrome Association's Bollywood Ball at Canary Wharf. Our dream of appearing on TV came true in 2010 when we wowed the judges in a brilliant audition for the 'Got To Dance' television competition; this can be seen on Youtube.
