Dawlish | Community Support & Development
Our charitable aim is to support voluntary work in education, social welfare and other charitable activities among persons in need in Teignbridge. We provide 4 separate services: The Volunteer Centre (recruits, places & supports volunteers, and runs a Community Support Scheme), Teignbridge Carers Break (a sitting service enabling carers to have a break), a Nail Cutting Service, and the Outreach Benefits Service (free advice and guidance for carers in identifying and claiming benefits).
Why the community needs usWe enable local people to participate in volunteering, and our services give assistance and support to many in the community, whether by direct help or by signposting to other sources of support. We enable carers of all ages to take a break, we provide personal care to promote independent living and we help people to access their entitlements and increase their income. We help older people who cannot manage their own nailcare and we have a flourishing Community Support Scheme using volunteers.
Our impact on the communityOur services meet a vital need, increasing health and wellbeing. We support an annual average of 1000 service users and helped clients claim almost £1m in grants and benefits last year. Our Community Support Scheme, whereby volunteers help with shopping and outings, accompany to hospital appointments, make befriending visits, go dog walking and tidy gardens, is short of funds. The scheme needs additional funding to continue and we welcome supporters' donations.
