
To give women the opportunity to learn new skills, gain confidence and become independent, inclusive members of their community. DAWTA was set up over 20 years ago by local women who recognised the consequences of isolation, exclusion, unemployment on their health & wellbeing, cohesion etc and resolved to address these issues through education and training delivered within a women only environment. Contrary to the name, DAWTA actually works with ALL women irrespective of their background.
Why the community needs usThe influx of new peoples over the past decade particularly in Normanton/Peartree area has significantly changed the landscape of Derby's community. Whilst the diversity has been enriching it has brought with it many challenges not least cohesion. DAWTA is making a positive contribution by providing tailored skills training to disadvantaged women to enable them to become independent, economically viable and proactive. Without our services they would remain vulnerable.
Our impact on the communityConfident, independent, assertive and proactive women contributing to their local community and economy. DAWTA has supported thousands of women gain basic skills/accreditation and helped them into employment, further and higher education-achieved through accessing high quality training delivered by qualified and experienced staff.
