The Doddridge Centre Limited is a community hub which is based across two sites, one being the Doddridge Centre and the other being St James Community Centre – both based in St James, Northampton. We work with both individuals and organisations to provide opportunities for growth, support and development and we do this in a manner of different ways. We offer space and rooms for groups to host their own events and activities as well as running our own events, classes and groups along with working with many different organisations and not for profit organisations as well as the local authority to provide a variety of services and support to the local community whilst encouraging, supporting and creating opportunities.
We are passionate about co-production and ensuring the voice of the local community is heard through the centre, including children and young people, the elderly and vulnerable. To us all voices are important and by hearing their voices we are able to assist to meet their needs. The Centre has a footfall of around 12,000 to 15,000 people on an annual basis with a variety of reasons for attendees utilising the Centre. We provide a safe, non-judgmental space for all and pride ourselves on being inclusive and offering something for all. The Centre’s offerings have continue to grow over the last year and we have many plans which will only enhance the centre moving forward with partnership working and collaboration being an important aspect to the delivery.
The Doddridge Centre is becoming an established hub again, however the rising costs of living are also having an impact on our resources as well as the community’s. We have seen our costs increasing with funding revenues decreasing meaning that we are stretched both financially and physically with staff losses. Our utility bills are excessive, with gas and electricity proving to be an ever-increasing cost which will only continue to rise. To allow us to continue our work within the community we are reliant on funding from external grant giving bodies however we do have a regular income from office rental and hall hire, although this income does not cover the expenses of running the centre and providing for the community.
