
Drinksense is a local charity working to reduce the harm caused to individuals, families and communities by alcohol and other substance misuse. It is estimated there are 1.6m people dependent on alcohol in England and 2.6m children living in the UK with parents drinking hazardously, 705,000 are living with dependent drinkers (AlcoholConcern). At Drinksense we are passionate about this cause and the community we work to support through delivery of a range of services and projects.
Why the community needs usDrinksense work includes: Treatment and support for adults working to make changes to their alcohol misuse and address a full range of health and social care needs to support recovery. Support for relatives, friends and concerned others including children of substance misusing parents. Treatment and support for alcohol and substance misuse for young people. Education and prevention projects. Hospital liaison providing supported access to community alcohol treatment and support for patients.
Our impact on the communityIn the last year: 99.4% of clients engaging in treatment programmes reduced their alcohol intake. 26 clients presenting with no fixed abode were housed within 5 working days. 64 clients regained employment, voluntary work or training. 77.2% engaging in treatment with previous alcohol related A&E admissions had not attended A&E during their treatment programme. 98% of young people surveyed had an increase in alcohol knowledge following a Drinksense education session.
