We are a unique and innovative educational charity that supports individuals on the journey around equalities and inclusion. We help develop knowledge and skills that enable us to challenge and combat prejudice, discrimination and injustice and celebrates diversity in the lives of young children. We achieve this through our toy library and offering support directly to young children, parents, carers and those who work with them in Brighton and Hove.
Please contact clair@ecpuk.org if you or families you know would like to join the toy library; we are able to offer a FREE toy borrowing service for families. This free service began during the pandemic, but because the cost of living crisis is ongoing, so is our free offer. Why the community needs us We are very skilled and experienced play workers, teachers and community activists. We have spent years getting to know the varied and diverse communities in Brighton and Hove and we put this specialist knowledge to good effect when working hard meeting children's needs. We are a valuable 'toy library community' to many folk who are a street, a county or a continent away from their families. We give non-judgemental support and information to all those who come in to the toy library and help parents and carers gain knowledge and confidence to meet their child's needs. And we have FUN!!!!
Our impact on the community The charity has been a valued resource in the city since we started, in 1988! We signpost families and those who work with them to other services they need but may not know about and we are committed to raising awareness about the importance of children's rights and how best to meet their needs. Our toy library service is used and loved by many and continues to be the focal point of all our work, through the pandemic and now beyond. The toy library continues to be a 'safe' space for families to meet up, make friends, for children to play, but also to choose books and toys to take home, enjoy and play with.
