EYF is a youth development organisation which teaches life skills to youth through structured play. The life skills experience is a progressive programme taught to at risk youth aged 7+. All of our lessons focus on of the 9 Core Values; including honesty, integrity and confidence. The children also learn 9 Healthy Habits which fall into the categories of physical, emotional and social well being. All while having FUN!
Why the community needs usEYF works in communities identified by local or national government as being disadvantaged. Many of the children come from single parent homes with a history of long term unemployment. Our aim is to create active citizens from youth who may be considered to be on the margins of society. The core values and healthy habits are woven into fun activities and taught primarily by local community volunteers who also act as role models. Recently we have brought our programme to disabled youth.
Our impact on the communityThe positive impact we have had on local youth has been noted by parents, carers and educators. Many have been impressed with the positive change in attitude of the participants within a short time of beginning the programme. Though our charity is relatively new we have received several awards for our community work. We were awarded a special award by the Northern Sports Award 2011 and also were voted North Manchester School Sports Partnership Community Club of the year in 2011.
