Many people think that horse riding for disabled people is just a bit of fun - but in fact it has a unique remedial effect. The regular, rhythmical movement of the horse helps to improve circulation, balance and strengthen all core muscles. Riding also improves coordination. Self confidence is boosted by enjoying a new skill and taking part in group exercises and games. For many of our riders, being on a horse gives them freedom and independence. We help over 100 disabled children and adults.

Why the community needs us

Many of our riders are introduced to us by the physiotherapists of Harrogate and District Community Resource Team and the children from the Child Development Centre at Harrogate Hospital. We also have riders from Henshaw's College for the Blind and many local Care Homes. Our benefit to the community is that many local disabled adults and children have more fulfilled lives.

Our impact on the community

The results of our involvement with the disabled are visible. After a ride with us we send home happy children and adults who are much calmer and have had exercise that will strengthen their muscles and improve their posture.
