Why the community needs usThe local community needs to identify, support and provide services for people with dementia and their carers. There is also a need to raise awareness and reduce misunderstanding. The people who benefit are the people with dementia, their carers, families and friends and hopefully the wider community as fear and lack of knowledge are reduced. The group helps to alleviate stress and the sense of isolation by providing information, support and mutual support, guidance and by raising awareness.
Our impact on the communityThe people taking part share their experiences & worries with others in similar situations. They feel well-informed of benefits & other services with the support of our trained volunteers plus information and guidance in a friendly welcoming atmosphere. The feelings of sometimes despair & being alone are alleviated so stress is reduced and coping strategies can be put into practice. People with dementia & their carers can regain a feeling of value as a person & as part of the community.
