Forth | Community Support & Development
With over 10 years experience, we create increased opportunities for local people living in this remote rural area of South Lanarkshire through i) training in computing and arts & crafts - developing personal skills, confidence and self esteem; ii) access to welfare information and services - offering a local base for agencies working in our community; iii) assistance to other community groups to develop local projects - including project management and monitoring.
Why the community needs usFormerly a coal mining community, Forth and surrounding rural area now suffers high unemployment, high dependency on benefits, an ageing population, poor public transport and general low esteem. We provide training opportunities to increase confidence, skills and employbility, a community base for welfare agencies and support to other community groups. From 2009 we have also employed young people, giving them work experience, and in 2011 we established a local Work Club for job searching.
Our impact on the communityAn independent charity managed by local people, we know what our community needs and we can deliver our services effectively. Working with over 250 people per year, we programme our training in response to local demand. Since 2005, we have delivered certificated IT training and were awarded SDS BRANDED LEARNING CENTRE status in 2010. We are priviledged to help local people develop skills, gain qualifications, find employment, set-up businesses and improve their quality of life.
